John E. Von Pein, Jr., age 70 of Richmond, died Thursday morning (September 23, 2010) at his residence. He was born in Richmond on June 6, 1940 to John E. Sr. and Marceil Crull Von Pein and had lived here all of his life. He was a graduate of Richmond High School and a graduate of the Elkins Radio Institute in Chicago. He enjoyed working in radio and TV advertising and marketing and as a DJ (WKBV and Cable Round Table) and was particularly proud of his interviews with Mayor Roger Cornett. He was co-owner of Advanced Travel of America from 1973 to the present and had worked for several years for Insight Media Advertising. John was active or involved in many professional travel organizations where he served on the board of directors including one international board (SKAL International). He was also active in the Richmond community serving on or with numerous boards and activities. He was a member of the Richmond Community School Board for 10 years and served as president for 3 years. While on the school board, he was pleased to have the opportunity to present diplomas to his two daughters and to two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law. John was a loving and supportive father and was proud to be an uncle to the children of his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law. He was an avid Richmond Red Devil fan and a proud supporter of RHS musical and sport organizations. He loved music of all kinds, travel, history, live theatre and Star Trek. John had a wonderful, warm personality , a quick wit and great sense of humor, a deep faith, and a sincere love for his family, his friends and his home the Richmond community. He was a member of Forest Hills Country Club and of First English Lutheran Church
Survivors include his adoring wife of 34 years - Linda Von Pein; daughters - Katherine (Von Pein) Bruni and Karla (Von Pein) Fultz; six grandchildren, three brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law, his first wife Carolyn Von Pein; loving cousins.
His parents and step-mother, Alberta Von Pein, are also deceased.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday (September 29, 2010) in First English Lutheran Church (2727 East Main Street). Rev. John Walker and Rev. Brian Derrer will officiate. Burial will be in Lutherania Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday (September 28, 2010) from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary.
