Obituary

Joseph Lincoln Hatfield, age 74, of Richmond, died Tuesday evening (June 10, 2008) at Arbor Trace after a courageous battle with cancer.� Joe was born on February 16, 1934 in Richmond and was the sixth generation of his family to reside in Centerville.� He lived in Centerville until 1961 where he attended Centerville schools and was a 1952 graduate of Centerville High School.� He was the son on Joseph and Ula Pike Hatfield.� Joe was married for 46 years to Carol Cain Hatfield whom he married on August 12, 1961 at Saint Andrew Church in Richmond.� He taught social studies in Richmond Community Schools for 31 � years many of which were at Pleasant View Middle School.� He also taught at Test Middle School and Richmond High School.Joe received his Bachelors Degree in 1961 from Purdue University after he had served in the US Navy and attended Wabash College.� He received his Masters Degree in History from Ball State University.� Joe was an active member of Saint Andrew Church.� He served as president of the Saint Andrew School Board during the first consolidation of Saint Andrew and Saint Mary schools when the name Seton was chosen.� He also served on the first Board of Education for Seton Catholic High School.� Joe was a former board member of Birthright.� He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was an avid golfer.� He loved his family and spending time with them.� He was also a member of the Richmond Senior Center.�Survivors include his wife of 46 years - Carol Hatfield;� daughters - Teresa (Don) Henson of Richmond, Anna (Kevin) Warren of Texas, Susan (Steve) Pulis of Texas, Rita (Thomas) Crawford of Texas and Maria (Greg) Williams of Texas;� sisters - Jeannie (Ray) Ferriell of Centerville and Jackie McConaha of Mesa, Arizona; 10 grandchildren - Matthew and Tyler Henson, Riley, Whit Kenneth and Aubrey Warren, Lauren and Christina Crawford, Kelsey, Miles and Kennedy Williams;� great grandchildren Emma and Ella Henson;� nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.� �His parents, two sisters, Barbara Jane Hatfield and Janice Schafer, and a nephew, Joe Schafer, are also deceased.�A prayer service will be held at 9:30 am on Monday (June 16, 2008) in Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary followed by Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Andrew Church.� Burial will be in Saint Andrew Cemetery.� Friends may call on Sunday (June 15, 2008) from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.� Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Andrew Church, Seton Catholic Elementary School or Seton Catholic High School in care of 240 South 6th St. Richmond, IN 47374; or to Community Food Pantry, PO Box 1345 Richmond, IN 47375;� Birthright, 303 South 6th St. Richmond, IN 47374 or Marian College, 3200 Cold Springs Road, Indianapolis, IN� 46222.�� www.riggle-waltermann.com
