Kermit J. Harris, age 87, of Richmond, died Sunday afternoon (July 15, 2012) at Reid Hosptial. He was born in Wayne County on May 24, 1925 to Ben and Eunice Wilson Harris and had lived here most of his life. He was a 1942 graduate of Williamsburg High School, attended Ball State University and graduated from the Wisconsin School of Banking. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theatre. He had worked for the former First National Bank and had also worked in real estate. He farmed for many years on the family farm on north Centerville Road before moving to Friends Fellowship Community. He was a member of American Legion Post 65 and VFW Post 1108. He drove a school bus for Centerville Schools for thirteen years. Survivors include his wife of 62 years - Catherine "Cay" Harris and his son Kurt (Linda) Harris of Fairfax Station, Virginia. A brother, Ben Neal Harris, and sister, Okie Ellis, are also deceased. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday (July 19, 2012) in Holy Family Church. Father Kevin Morris will officiate. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery where military graveside services will be conducted by the Wayne County Honor Guard. Friends may call on Wednesday (July 18, 2012) from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary.
