Surrounded by love, Mark Phillips, 69, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2018 at Reid Health. He was born on September 15, 1948 to James Leonard and Alice Rodgers Phillips.
Mark was a lifelong resident of Richmond, graduating from Richmond High School in 1966. Mark earned degrees in art education and commercial art from Indiana State University, and a master's degree in art education from Ball State University.
On August 15, 1971, he married his high school sweetheart, Janet Hackman. Together, they enjoyed 46 years of marriage.
Mark spent his career teaching art to students at Test Middle School. He also served in the Indiana National Guard.
Whether he was singing and performing Elvis songs, spending time with family, enjoying golf, or playing with his granddaughters, Mark had the ability to make everyone around him smile.
Mark's love for the Lord guided him daily.
Mark will be remembered with love by his wife, Janet, sons Matt (Liz) and Ben (Rachael), his four granddaughters, Reagan, Addison, Katy, and Ava. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret Smith, sisters-in-law, Diana Phillips and Karen Hackman, one niece, four nephews, and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jim Phillips, and sisters, Claudia Phillips, Earlene Thomas and Phyllis O'Brien.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday (May 1, 2018) from 4 p.m. -7 p.m. at Riggle-Waltermann Mortuary, 32 South 11th Street, Richmond, Indiana 47374. A service will be held at First English Lutheran Church, 2727 East Main Street, Richmond, Indiana 47374 at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday (May 2, 2018). Pastors John Walker and Chip Belanga will officiate. Burial will be in Lutherania Cemetery.
