Mary E. Humphries, age 88, of Richmond, died Tuesday (March 13, 2018) at Arbor Trace. She was born in Decatur, Alabama on November 15, 1929 to Newell Travis and Tivis Miller Legg and had lived here since 1952. She was a homemaker. Mary liked to crochet and she loved Southern Gospel music where she enjoyed traveling to concerts. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she was a dedicated Sunday School teacher. She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Humphries, who she married September 4, 1946. He passed away August 8, 2017. In addition to her husband she is also preceded in death by her parents Newell and Tivis Legg and her brother, Charles Legg.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Roger Howard (Joan) Humphries, Sheila Smith and Susan Humphries all of Richmond; grandchildren Kristin Austerman, Scott Humphries, Sheena Chowning; great grandchildren Conner Austerman, Noah Humphries, Analiese Humphries, Kaiyah Humphries, Johanna Humphries, Mason Chowning and Calen Chowning.
Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (March 17, 2018) in Riggle – Waltermann Mortuary. Pastor Curt Nies will officiate. Burial will be in Elkhorn Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday (March 17, 2018) from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
