Mary M. Stragand, age 94, of Richmond, died Monday (October 14, 2013) at Friends Fellowship Community. She was born in Hartford City, Indiana on February 19, 1919 to Harry and Susy Lieber McDonald and was raised in Dunkirk, Indiana. She attended Western College for Women and graduated from DePauw University in 1941. Mary taught school in Fort Wayne before moving to Richmond where she taught at Nicholson School, the State Hospital School and Saint Mary School. She was a member of Saint Mary Church and had served on the Connersville Deanery Board. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity, and had belonged to the Richmond Women's Club, Saint Mary Guild and the State Panhellenic Council. Her husband, Dr. George Stragand, died January 18, 1996. Survivors include her daughter, Susy (Jim) Hasecoster of Hagerstown; son, Peter (Mary Kay Hoff) Stragand of Saint Louis, Missouri; four grandchildren, Matt (Sarah) Hasecoster, Greg (Jennifer) Hasecoster, Sam Stragand, Claire Stragand; three great grandchildren, Erik, Evan and Mira Hasecoster. Two brothers and a sister are also deceased. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Friday (October 18, 2013) in Saint Mary Church (710 North "A" Street). The family will receive friends on Friday (October 18, 2013) following the service from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Riggle �" Waltermann Mortuary. Entombment will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery in Muncie on Saturday at 11:00 a.m..
