Michaels Wayne Smith, age 64, of Richmond, IN passed away in his home Thursday (June 22, 2017) with his daughter by his side. He was born in Richmond on June 19, 1953 to Clayton Lawrence Smith and Marlene Sue (Lantz) Smith. Michaels served in the United States Airforce and was honorably discharged on July 15, 1971. He worked many years for Wayne Works Corporation, was a former CNC machine operator and president of the USWA Local 5163 at PTC Alliance. He was very well known for his past in recovery, while he helped many others on their paths to recovery as well during his 8 years of recovery. He studied Fine Arts at IU East and had many hobbies including collecting knives, reading books and enjoying sharpening knives as a side job He loved art, horses and his very diverse taste in music.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Marlene Sue Opal Smith; brother Bruce Lawrence Smith; only nephew Dustin Lawrence Smith; great nephew Clayton Lawrence Smith; grandchildren Amariah Marie Smith, Adriana Lynn and Aviana Lucille Wilson; several aunts and cousins. Preceding him in death are his parents, Clayton Lawrence and Marlene Sue Smith and brother Mark Allen Smith.
A celebration of his life will be held at 5:00 P.M. on Friday (July 21, 2017) in Riggle – Waltermann Mortuary, located at 32 South 11th Street in Richmond. Family and friends may attend his celebration of life from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., at 7:00 P.M. Pastor John Maples will speak for him and help us celebrate his journey into his next life.
