Obituary

Norma F. Carnes-Schroeder, age 87, of Richmond, died Wednesday morning (September 20, 2017) at Brookdale Senior Living - Richmond. She was born in Hillsboro, Kentucky on January 25, 1930. Norma was a retired employee of the Palladium-Item where she served as a reporter, as Family Section editor where she was recognized for her writing by the association of Hoosier editors and also wrote feature columns "Taste and Talent" and "Norma's People". She also hosted a local cable television cooking show for Richmond Power and Light entitled "The Electric Gourmet". She served as Richmond City Clerk under mayors Roger Cornett, Dennis Andrews and Shelly Miller. Norma was very active in community affairs including the Kiwanis Club and serving on the Chamber Action Team. In 1983 she was recognized for Outstanding Service to Education by the Richmond Community Schools Elementary Principals Association. She received the Sertoma Service to Mankind Award in 1988 and was named the Altrusa Woman of the Year in 2000. She was a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish (Holy Family).

Survivors include her daughters, Sallye (Jim) Creech, Lisa (Rick Barth) Simmons, Julie Stout, Amy (Dave) Shake; sister Linda (George) Keever-Webb; grandchildren, Sarah (Geoff) Riggle, Jeremy Creech, Lee Simmons, Hannah (John) Marinakes, Whitney (T.J. Kinsey) Stout, Logan Harter, Audrey (Joseph) Burchfield, Ian Shake, Nicole Carnes, Jennifer Carnes, Jack Carnes; 12 great grandchildren and one to be born in March; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Bess Keever; her first husband, DeWan "Jack" Carnes in 1992; her second husband, Martin Schroeder in 2003, a daughter, Jennifer Jane Carnes; a son, Jeffery Carnes; a sister, Jean Nelson and son-in-law, David Stout

Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday (September 26, 2017) in Holy Family Church. Father Kevin Morris will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Earlham Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday (September 25, 2017) from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Riggle – Waltermann Mortuary.
