Ralph R. "Maverick" Abney, age 77, of Richmond, died Tuesday (December 9, 2003) at Reid Hospital. He was born in Covington, Kentucky on March 11, 1926 to John and Anna Robinson Abney and had lived in this area most of his life. He was a retired employee of Richmond Gear where he had worked at an inspector and as a machine operator. He was a US Army veteran of World War II where he had served with the 101st Airborne.
Survivors include: Wife - Jo Ellen Abney to whom he was married 34 years

Brothers - Howard (wife Pauline) Abney of Hamilton, Ohio
Hubert (wife Kathleen) Abney of Berea, Kentucky
Joe Abney of Berea, Kentucky
Sisters - Geneva (husband Orville) Jones of Richmond
Edna Cate of Richmond
Nieces & Nephews

A brother, Dick Abney, is also deceased.
Services will be held at 10:30 am on Friday (December 12, 2003) in Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery where military graveside services will be conducted by the Wayne County Veteran's Council. Friends may call on Thursday (December 11, 2003) from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Abney Family in care of the funeral home. www.riggle-waltermann.com
