Ray Darrell Slick, age 63, of Richmond, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday morning (November 21, 2009) at Reid Hospital. He was born in Richmond on October 24, 1946 to Sheridan B. and Mary Louise Fleming Slick and was raised by his mother and step-father, Lionel Haid. He was a 1964 graduate of Richmond High School and was a US Army veteran of the Viet Nam War. He had worked for Harris-Allied Corporation and also as a free-lance broadcast equipment technician. Ray was an accomplished musician and was a long-time member, along with his wife, of the group Charlie Estes and Friends and had also performed locally with Carol Lou Woodward. He was a sought after bass player and was member of the board of directors of the Aloha International Steel Guitar Club where he had participated in a number of the club's guitar festivals. Ray had worked as a sound technician of the Civic Hall Performing Arts Center and was co-host of the program Proclaim Liberty on the local cable access channel. He was a quiet person but a vocal witness for the Lord and for righteous causes Survivors include his devoted wife of 41 years - Bonnie Slick; his sister - Carol (Noble) Carpenter of Warsaw, Indiana; nieces - Crista Carpenter of Indianapolis, Carin Plothow of Plymouth, Indiana; nephew - Craig Carpenter of Indianapolis; sisters-in-law - Jeanne Nordstrom of Richmond, Judy (Bruce) Purdy of Georgia, Michele (David Smith) Bolyard of Colorado; aunts, an uncle and cousins. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday (November 25, 2009) in Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary. Rev. Paul Mingus will officiate. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Wayne County Honor Guard. Friends may call on Tuesday (November 24, 2009) from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
