Richard L. (Dick) Herre Sr., age 88, recently of Centerville and formerly of Boynton, Beach, Florida, died Wednesday (January 10, 2007) at Pinehurst Village in Centerville.� He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 26, 1918 to Louis and Letitia Bird Herre.� He graduated from Overbrook, High School in Philadelphia and took classes in business at the University of Pennsylvania.� In his younger years while playing drums in a band in the Philadelphia area, he auditioned and was accepted as a drummer with the Benny Goodman Band but declined to join the group because of the travel commitment and its effect on his job and family.� Dick was employed by the Insurance Company of North America as Head Statistician and was transferred to Richmond in 1952 and then back to Philadelphia in 1969.� He retired early from INA and worked for the accounting firm of Touche Ross in Ocean City, New Jersey.� Upon full retirement, he and his wife Edna moved to Boynton Beach, Florida where they lived for over 25 years.� After the death of his wife he moved to Centerville to live with his daughter.

While living in Richmond he played drums for many Civic Theatre productions and �with the Carol Lou Trio.� He also played with Clubhouse Productions in Florida.� He loved big band music and had an extensive record and CD collection.� He was a US Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and of the American Legion.� In Richmond, he was a member and past treasurer of First Christian Church and in the 60's was an active participant with the Boy Scout troop at the church.

7 Great Grandchild - Christopher (Nicole) Torbeck, Jacob (Krystal) Torbeck, Carlie Torbeck, Caitlin Torbeck, Matthew Alexander, Christy Alexander and Conner Herre;
2 Great Great Grandchildren - Jordan Torbeck and Dakota Marie Torbeck;
Sisters-in-law - Mary Hannum, Ann Herre and brother-in-law - Dr. Robert (Peg) Chain of Pennsylvania

He also leaves his dear friends of many years, Bill and Gretchen Woehrmann of Richmond; Paul and Anni Reissmann of Florida; Tom and Shirley Opipari of Florida ; Roy and Ginny Schoch and Michael & Ruth Stephany of Pennsylvania

In addition to his wife and parents, a daughter Melody Ann Herre, and two brothers Robert and John (Jack) Herre, are also deceased.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday (January 20, 2007) in Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary.� Rev. Royce Willerton will officiate.� Friends may call on Saturday (January 20, 2007) from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the funeral home.� Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 100 South 10th St.� Richmond, Indiana� 47374.�
