Robert Edward Nocton, age 98, of Williamsburg, Indiana passed away Monday December 11, 2023 at Ascension St. Vincent Heart Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born in Richmond, Indiana on October 6, 1925 to Michael Joseph and Elizabeth Jane (Mitchell) Nocton. Robert was a United States WW II Navy veteran and worked as a dairy farmer. He was married to Ruth Eileen Merkamp on February 4, 1950. He was also a longtime member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Survivors include his children Nancy (Calvin) Moore, Martha (Thomas) Goble, Robert (Joyce) Nocton Jr., Joe (Janet) Nocton, Mary (Steve) Hersey, Steve (Tara) Nocton, Tim (Damita) Nocton and Kevin (Becky) Nocton; 19 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and many nieces/nephews. In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his wife Ruth of 71 yrs; infant daughter Amy S. Nocton, grandson Joshua Hersey; sister and brother-in-law Frances and Gilbert Woolworth; sister and brother-in-law Lucille and Clem Toschlog, brother and sister-in-law Malcolm and June Nocton and brother Larry Nocton.
Robert was a loving husband and father who ran the family dairy farm alongside Ruth and his children. He loved family and family time especially later on with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an active member of the local Lions' club and also chaired the Lion's Quest program for many years. During semi-retirement from the dairy farm, he and Ruth enjoyed many Lion's international trips to destinations such as China, Italy, Thailand, European countries and many more. He and Ruth made quite a few trips to Mexico fitting donated eyewear for people in need. In later years he enjoyed belonging to his antique tractor club.
Liturgy of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday December 16, 2023 at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial to immediately follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation for Robert will be held at Williamsburg Community Center on Friday, December 15, 2023, from 2-5p.m. Riggle-Waltermann Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
