Obituary

Robert M. Sizemore, Sr., age 79, of Richmond, died Wednesday afternoon (July 29, 2009) at Forest Park Health Campus. He was born in Dayton, Ohio on February 21, 1930 to Willis G. and Anna Hayre Sizemore and had lived here since 1961. He received his bachelors degree in geology from the Univeristy of Cincinnati where he was a member and past president of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He received his masters degree in teaching from Ball State University. Bob was a decorated US Army veteran of the Korean War where he attained the rank of Captain. He served with the 1st GHQ Raider Company and was on a special night mission when he almost lost his life when enemy machine gun fire targeted his rubber raft. He was a retired science teacher having taught at Test Junior High School and Richmond High School. As a teacher he was an innovator and very creative individual. As director of the Test and High School drama clubs, he led students to tackle theater productions way beyond what one would think was their ability. He had been an active volunteer for Richmond Civic Theater since 1961 where he served as an actor, director, set designer and member and past president of the RCT Board of Directors. He also received multiple acting and production awards. He was also co-founder and producer-director of the Great American Tent Show Company. Bob was a member and past president of the Richmond Area Railroad Society and was the originator of the "Fantasyland" holiday train display. He enjoyed country music and playing the guitar. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Survivors include his son - Robert M Sizemore, Jr. of Centerville; daughter - Julia L (Tony) Dawson of Miamisburg, Ohio; former wife and life-long friend - Helen Sizemore of Richmond; brother - Raymond (Jeanne L) Sizemore of Norwalk, Ohio; sisters - Thelma L Wilcox of Middletown, Ohio, N. Jean Sizemore of Lynchburg, Ohio; grandchildren -Nicholas R. and Shaun M. Sizemore, Gerek M and Logan H. Crabtree; nieces and nephews Services will be held at 9:30 am on Monday (August 3, 2009) in First English Lutheran Church (2727 East Main Street). Pastor Brian Derrer and Intern Candida Turner will officiate. Burial will be in Dayton National Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday (August 2, 2009) from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary.
