Obituary

Roger E. Thompson, age 88, of Richmond, ended his battle with the disabling disease of Alzheimer's on Tuesday evening (February 23, 2010) at Ambassador Health Care. He was born in Webster, Indiana on June 25, 1921 to Everett and Eva Mendenhall Thompson and had lived in Richmond most of his life. Roger was a graduate of Mariman Military Academy and served in the US Army during World War II. After his return from the military, Roger married Mary Jane Falconi and then bought his own business - Thompson's Corner at South 5th and C Streets - which he successfully operated for over twenty years. He then continued his love for the business and became the purchaser of tobacco products for Lincoln-Kaler and then for Fowler Distribution in Richmond. He was a member of Holy Family Church and of the Indiana Federation of the Republican Party. Roger had been active with the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed the occasional engaging conversations he had with his pastor from Holy Family, the late Father Robert Minton. His wife, Mary Jane Thompson, died in 1993. Survivors include his sons - Roger E. (Donna Faye) Thompson of Richmond, Robert (Kathy) Thompson of Plainfield, Indiana; seven grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; brother - Byron "BT" (Norma) Thompson of Redding, California. In addition to his parents, two sisters, Thelma and Charmion, and two brothers, Garland "GH" Thompson and Wilbur (Debbit) Thompson, are also deceased. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 pm on Saturday (February 27, 2010) in Holy Family Church. Father Todd Riebe will officiate. Burial will be in Saint Mary Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday (February 27, 2010) one hour prior to the service at the church.
