Ruth E. McNeill, age 97, formerly of Richmond, died Wednesday (June 1, 2016) in Bellefontaine, Ohio. She was born in Richmond on April 16, 1919 to Herbert and Martha Jurgens Stegman and had lived most of her life in Phoenix, Arizona. Ruth moved back to this area in 2008 before moving to Bellefontaine in 2011. She married her husband James "Jim" McNeill August 21st, 1946. She was a homemaker and a member of Saint John Lutheran Church in Richmond. Ruth and Jim were fond of dogs and cats, and they provided homes for many strays.
She is survived by nieces and nephews including Susie (William) Harvey of Bellefontaine, Ohio, Becky Callendar of Columbus, Ohio, Patricia Wilson of Richmond, Indiana, Richard (Virginia) Wilson of San Diego, California, Barbara Mathewson of Knoxville, Tennessee, Loralee McNeill of Florida, Roger (Carolyn) McNeill of Indianapolis, Theresa (Rick) Wiese of Indianapolis, Cheryl Morgan of Indianapolis, several great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews, and great great great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, her husband James "Jim" McNeill, a brother, John "Jack" Stegman, and sister, Lorraine Wilson, are also deceased.
Services will be conducted on Saturday (June 11th 2016) at 2 p.m. in Saint John Lutheran Church (501 South 7th Street). Pastor James Culver will officiate. Burial will follow in Lutherania Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the church.
