Ruth Kathy Smalley, age 79 of Richmond, passed away on Tuesday July 7, 2026, at the Willows of Richmond. She was born in Sylvania, Ohio on November 15, 1946 to Gerald Donovan and Bettie Cadaret Donovan. Kathy married Rodney Smalley in Toledo, Ohio in 1969 and they moved to the Richmond area in 1975. Kathy had attended the University of Toledo where she studied Art. She was owner/operator of Old Chester Greenhouse; people came from all over the surrounding counties and as far as Cincinnati to purchase from her greenhouse. She was an animal person, especially cats, dogs and horses. Kathy loved her children and grandchildren, she was a loving, kind sweet person who had a memorable laugh. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Left to cherish her memory are children Kristen (Jason) Middleton, Kelli Smalley and Robert (Deb) Smalley; brother Dennis Donovan; sister in law Carol Donovan; grandchildren Quinn Smalley, Declan Smalley, Liam Smalley and Maggie Middleton; Nieces and nephews Dennis Jr. Eric, Melissa and Brian; and many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Rodney “Rod” Roger Smalley; parents Gerald and Bettie Donovan and brother Gerald “Mike” Donovan.

Pastor Chip Belanga will officiate services for Kathy at 4pm on Monday July 13, 2026, at Riggle-Waltermann Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 2-4pm on Monday July 13, 2026 at the funeral home.
