Shirley A. Shepard, age 71, of Richmond, died Tuesday morning (February 24, 2009) at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born in Richmond on September 24, 1937 to Roy and Thelma Kuhlman Alvey and had lived here all of her life. She was a graduate of Richmond High School and she was a homemaker. Shirley was an avid reader and particularly enjoyed the company of her companions "Daisy" and "Sissy". Her husband, Charles Shepard, died on July 27, 2003. Survivors include her daughter - Carol (Jerry) Foster of Richmond; sons- Ron (Julie) Shepard of Centerville; Mike Shepard of California; sister - Marge Juerling of Richmond; brothers - Darrell Alvey of Richmond and Richard Alvey of Boston, Indiana; grandchildren - Matt Shepard, Mark Shepard, Kyle Beckman, Kevin Beckman, Kasey Beckman, Nicole Shepard, Jesika Shepard; step-grandchildren - Jason Foster, Elizabeth Nichols, Tiffany Foster, Rachelle Foster, Mindy Foster, Jessica Foster; great grandchildren - Alex Beckman, Madison Beckman, Issac Nichols, Malia Nichols, Brandon Foster, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, a son, Thomas Shepard, and a sister, Sandra Grillo, are also deceased. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday (February 28, 2009) in Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary. Rev. Rick Alvey will officiate. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday (February 27, 2009) from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
