Stephen Elijah Pennington was called home on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. He was born in Richmond, IN on January 30, 1955 to Alice Pauline (Miller) and Elijah Houston Pennington.
He graduated from Richmond High School in 1973 and went on to work for PRC Recording, Design & Manufacturing, Absocold and Johnson Metal Products.
Steve was a talented carpenter, a skill passed down to him by generations of Pennington carpenters before him. He was an avid golfer, skilled photographer, and had a passion for history. His appreciation and love for music, especially The Beatles, was something he took pride in passing on to his son and daughter. He relished every moment spent bonding with his children while listening to his cherished collection of vinyl records. He enjoyed traveling, and created many wonderful memories with his children on family vacations. He was a die-hard Chicago Bears fan, a torch that will continue to be carried on by his son and grandsons. Steve also had a deep love and respect for animals, a trait he passed on to his daughter, and found great joy in spoiling the family pets.
Steve was known for his infamously dry and, oftentimes, dark sense of humor. His quick wit and clever usage of puns will be missed by those who knew and loved him. Times spent listening to him tell jokes and funny stories while he grilled his notoriously delicious hamburgers, are some of the fondest memories his family will cherish.
Steve leaves behind his children Jason (Missy) Pennington and Cara Pennington, 3 grandsons Elijah, Asher and Noah Pennington, brother Tom (Debbie) Pennington, sister Sherry Pennington, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his beloved partner, Lynda White McClelland.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, grandparents, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
No public services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to make a donation to the National Association for Children of Addiction (NACoA) or your local animal shelter.
