Obituary

Thomas Joseph "Tom" Stolle, 61, died unexpectedly on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Reid Hospital surrounded by his family. Born July 27, 1948 in Richmond to Earl and Anna (Horigan) Stolle he was a lifelong resident of this community. Tom was a graduate of Richmond High School and Indiana University, being one of the first in the school's history to receive a Bachelor of General Studies degree. Tom was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the VietNam War. Tom was employed by the Palladium-Item for over 27 years, primarily as a sports reporter covering Earlham College football and basketball, and later as a copywriter and community services reporter. He retired from the hotel industry in 2005. Tom was a former member of the Centerville Stamp Club, an Optimist League baseball coach and member of Holy Family Catholic Church. In addition to his parents, Tom is survived by his wife, Mary Anne (Mathews) Stolle, to whom he was married May 31, 1974; a son, Christopher Thomas Stolle, of Indianapolis; a daughter, Sarah Suzanne Roll, of Arizona; a granddaughter, Isabella Marie Roll, of Richmond; and a brother, Ronald (Carol) Stolle of Richmond. He also leaves behind a special extended family including his mother-in law, Mary Alice (Chuck) Holliday of Richmond; a brother-in-law, James (Linda) Mathews of Charlotte, NC; sisters-in-law, Janice Moura, of Livermore,CA and Joanna (John) Woltja of Kettering, OH; and a former son-in-law, Stewart Roll, of Richmond. Tom was preceded in death by his father-in-law, John W. Mathews. There will be no public calling as Tom has donated his body to the Indiana University School of Medicine.
