Verna R. McFarland, age 72, of Richmond, died unexpectedly early Saturday morning (September 12, 2009) at Reid Hospital. She was born in Richmond on October 1, 1936 and was raised by her step-father and mother, Gardie and Martha Gammons Combs. She was a homemaker and had lived here all of her life. Survivors include her daughter - Sandra McFarland of Richmond; son - Gary (Sharon) McFarland of Richmond; brother - David (Caryn) Combs of Centerville; grandchildren - Stacy (Steve) Collins, Gary (Tonya) McFarland, Mark Brown, Corey Burge, Kayla Burge; step-grandchildren - Christy Hopkins, Rachel Gray, Misty Satkamp; 14 great grandchildren; sister-in-law - Ann Blume of Richmond; nephews - Jim Blume, David Blume and Ray Blume; niece - Kelsey Combs. An infant son, John McFarland, and two brothers, Jim Blume and Dennis Combs, are also deceased. Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday (September 15, 2009) in Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary. Rev.
