Wendell Kelley, age 87, of Richmond, died Thursday afternoon (November 17, 2011) at Friends Fellowship Community. He was born in Piqua, Ohio on April 25, 1924 to Curran and Kathryn Doney Kelley and had lived here most of his life. He attended Earlham College and Wright State University and was the retired Executive Vice President of the former First Federal Savings and Loan (now First Bank Richmond). Wendell was an active community volunteer having served on the original board for Interfaith Apartments, as treasurer for Richmond Symphony Orchestra, on the United Way board and as a member of the Richmond Rotary Club and the former Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees). He had also served as a member of the Wayne County Revolving Loan Committee and for many years as a volunteer for the Community Food Pantry. He was involved with Starr School special events (especially birthday parties), Morrison Reeves Library Book Sale and the Wayne County Historical Museum's Pioneer Days. Wendell was a long-time member and active participant at Central United Methodist Church. He loved to travel, having visited all 50 states and Puerto Rico plus several trips and cruises abroad. He greatly enjoyed classical music. Survivors include his wife of sixty one and one-half years, Betty June Kelley; daughter - Patty (Mike Dickerson) Kelley of Richmond; son - Craig Kelley of Cincinnati, Ohio. Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday (November 21, 2011) in Central United Methodist Church (1425 East Main Street). Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday (November 20, 2011) from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary.
