William A. "Bill" Cummins, age78, of Richmond died Wednesday (February 14, 2018). He was born in Richmond, Indiana on December 12, 1939 to Eugene and Rhea Reid Cummins and lived here all of his life. He was a 1958 graduate of Richmond High School. He had worked for Eaton Gear, NATCO, Bay State Abrasives and for the past 10 years was the manager of the the Druids Lodge. Bill was a loving and caring human being who never met a person he didn't like. His home was always open to loved ones and friends. Bill loved sports and followed the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Hoosiers, Cincinnati Reds and professional golf. Bill was known as "Mr. American Legion" for many that knew him. He was past commander of American Legion Post 65 where he was a member for 40 years, a member of the Past Commanders group and of the 40/8. He served as a corpsman in the U.S. Navy from 1959 through 1963. He was proud of his service and loved his country
Survivors include his wife "the girl next door" Carolee Cummins to whom he was married 57 years; his daughters Kelly Meyer, Lisa (Dan) Davis and Amy Cummins; five grandchildren Cameron Davis, Brooklyn Davis, Austin Davis, Mackenzie Meyer and Kendall Meyer; great grandchildren Kennedy and Adler; nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, his sister Connie Hamilton, son in-law Carlton Meyer and nephew Tim Hamilton are also deceased.
Services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday (February 17, 2018) in Riggle-Waltermann Mortuary. Rev. Johnny Shepherd will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Earlham Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday (February 17, 2018) from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Flag Education Fund in care of American Post Legion 65, 109 North 6th Street, Richmond, Indiana 47374.
